Customising Desktop


Customising Taskbar:

Steps to customise taskbar are as follows: -


  1. Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar.
  2. Select taskbar settings from the context menu.
  3. The settings menu will comprise of various options such as:
  4. Alignment and auto hide
  5. Show or hide taskbar items.
  6. Manage system tray icons.
  7. Use small icons option.
  8. Make necessary changes and click on “Customize” and then on “OK”.
  9. Taskbar will be customised accordingly.


Setting Time and Date of the System:

Steps for setting time and date of the system are as follows: -


  1. Click on ‘Date and Time’ from the ‘Notification Area’ in the ‘Taskbar’.
  2. ‘Date and Time’ box will appear.
  3. Click on ‘Change Date and Time Settings’.
  4. ‘Date and Time Dialog Box’ will appear.
  5. Click on ‘Protected Change Date and Time Button’.
  6. Another Dialog Box naming ‘Date and Time Settings’ will appear.
  7. Make the necessary changes.
  8. Click on ‘OK’.
  9. Your date and time has been set/updated successfully.


Using Desktop Themes:

  1. First, open control panel.
  2. Click on Personalisation.
  3. Then click on ‘Themes’.
  4. Check mark required theme.
  5. At last, click on ‘Save Changes’.

A theme changes the desktop background, windows colour, screen saver, sound etc. all at one go.


Changing Desktop Background of System:

Steps to change desktop background of a system are as follows: -


  1. Click on ‘Control Panel’. Control Panel window showing various icons will appear.
  2. Click on ‘Personalisation.’
  3. Click on ‘Desktop Background’.
  4. ‘Desktop Background Window’ will appear.
  5. ‘Check Mark’ the required image.
  6. Click on Save Changes.
  7. Your desktop background is successfully changed/updated.


Setting Screen Saver:

Steps for setting up screen saver are as follows: -


  1. Click on ‘Control Panel’. Control Panel window showing various icons will appear.
  2. Click on ‘Personalisation.’
  3. Click on ‘Screen Saver.’
  4. ‘Screen Saver Window’ will appear.
  5. Choose the required ‘Screen Saver’ from the Drop Down List Box.
  6. Make other necessary changes and click ‘OK’.
  7. Your screen saver has been successfully set up.


Installing/Adding a Printer


Steps to add a printer are as follows: -

  1. Click on ‘Control Panel’. ‘Control Panel Window’ will appear.
  2. Click on ‘Add Printer’. ‘Add Printer Wizard’ will appear.
  3. Click on ‘Add a Local Printer’. ‘Choose the Printer Port’ will appear.
  4. Click on ‘Existing Printer.’
  5. On the ‘Install the Driver Page’, select the ‘Model and Manufacturer’.
  6. Complete the additional steps and click on ‘Finish.’

Note:  To add a printer using an installation CD, insert the CD into your computer's drive and run the Setup.exe or Autorun.exe file, either automatically or by navigating to the CD drive in File Explorer. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to install the drivers and software for your specific printer model, accepting any license agreements and selecting the correct installation options. 


Printing Test Page:

Steps to print a test page are as follows: -


  1. Right-click on the ‘Installed Printer’ icon. Then click on ‘Printer Properties’.
  2. On the general tab, click on ‘Print Test Page’.


Printing a Document:

Steps to print a document are as follows: -


  1. To print a document, first, right-click on it. A ‘Pop-Up Menu’ will appear.
  2. Click on ‘Print’.
  3. The application software related to the file will open automatically, and the document will start printing.
